I get this question so much! I figured that since I’m always explaining the answer to people, why not just create a post to explain it out in full detail?
HOW DO I AFFORD TO TRAVEL SO MUCH?
Honestly, the answer is so simple. Here it is: ..I do nothing but travel! My life is pretty easy going right now. I don’t have too many bills. I don’t take on responsibilities I can’t handle. I don’t have credit cards. I don’t go to school. I don’t drive a car, pay for gas or car insurance. I use the bus to get around. I don’t drink or smoke right now. I don’t shop much. I don’t go to the movies, clubs, or high end / AYCE restaurants. Life is cheap. simple, boring, ordinary maybe, but cheap.
My mentality is that if I do these little weekend activities listed above, they’ll make me happy. They’ll satisfy me for the night. The beautiful memories with friends are great. Clothing is great. Education is important, of course! Owning your own things, having valuables to cherish, that is definitely cool. But all of those things listed above, they don’t strike passion in my eyes. They don’t give me a spark. They don’t make me feel like I’m actually alive. Traveling on the other hand, this is something that really drives me. This is something that I feel in my heart when I wake up in the morning. That fluttery feeling. Before I commit to anything, a membership, subscription, or big purchase- I always ask myself if I’ll be able to do any of this while living my dream to travel or if it’s contributing to that dream. If the answer is no, I take close consideration to my commitments. My priorities always include my dreams and goals in life first.
So to answer the big question: I afford to travel so much, because it is a priority to me. In fact, it is my biggest priority in life. I feel like your true priorities are funded regardless of what you want out of life. If you really want something in life, you gotta get your priorities straightened out. If you enjoy travel and aren’t funding towards it, it’s probably because your temporary priorities are taking over. I used to be really bad at saving at one point. I drank often, went to parties, ate out almost every night, and then I snapped right back into place. You gotta be truly committed and strict on yourself to fulfill a dream. It won’t just come with some little savings here and there. (Unless you’re not in a rush to achieving this goal) Me on the other hand, I am trying to travel ASAP. I want to live my dream now. That’s why I’m so strict on myself!
So what exactly do I save for? I want to note that when I do travel, I usually budget travel. I don’t need a luxurious five star hotel suite. I don’t need fine dining when I’m away. My value is to be in a different environment, with nature and beautiful scenery. When I’m saving money for travel, I save for the flight, transport, accommodation, food, attractions, souvenirs, and postcards for my Patreon subscribers!
I usually save from trip to trip. So for example, my last trip was to London. Since then, I’ve been saving for my next two trips, to San Francisco and Asia. It sounds crazy that I’m literally not doing much with my money besides that, but during my travels, I create content that will one day make me money to support that dream. It’ll be a self serving cycle, and eventually, once I’m ready to settle a bit, I can calm down and focus on owning a home. Until then, I know exactly what my priorities are and they’re aligned with what I want them to be! ☺️
