Feeling nervous and apprehensive about trying new street food in a new country is normal. Thailand hosts millions of people from around the world who come from different backgrounds and tastes. Thailand offers a wide variety of delicious street food on carts and snack bars. The food is tasty and economical especially for backpacking travelers. Here are some of the best Thai street foods that are a must try. 

Pad Thai / Thai Fried Noodles

Pad Thai is the most easily available street food found in almost every corner of the country. It is sweet and spicy noodles made with chicken and shrimp. Tamarind, palm sugar, lime juice and chillies are used to enhance the flavour and then it is finally topped with peanuts. 

Poh Pia Tod or Spring Rolls

Spring rolls are a reliable and delicious snack easily available in Thailand. You can choose different types of fillings like vegetable, meat or rice noodles. These are served with chili sauce and you can have them in a bag if you are in a hurry. 

Som Tam or Green Papaya Salad

This amazingly popular and tasty snack originated in the northern Thailand. It is made with shredded green papaya, tomato, string beans, carrots, garlic and fish sauce. It is perfect combinations of sour and spicy so don’t miss out on this one. 

Gai Tod or Thai Fried Chicken 

You may think it must be an ordinary available in the west but we bet you will be surprised by how tasty it is.  The chicken is dipped in fluffy batter and fried in oil with shallots. The thin coating preserves the flavour of the chicken and makes it light and delicious.

Guay Tiew or Noodle Soup

The delicious noodle soup is made with chicken or beef along with rice or egg noodles. You may find vendors who also add wonton or meatballs to enhance the flavors. Noodle soup is a staple in Thai household and the vendors make it with effort and dedication. 

Kluay Tod or Deep Fried Bananas 

Deep fried banana are an interesting combination of crunch and creaminess. It’s a quick snack which is also very popular among kids. You can also have these deep fried bananas as a dessert as they are light yet flavourful.
