Meet Charlos Antonio (Anthony) And Jacko, the two people I toured with!
I booked this tour with Charlos Antonio Johannes (Whatsapp +62 813-7001-3602)
He is one of the coolest and kindest people I’ve met here in Bali!
We ran into each other on the beach. He introduced himself as a diving instructor who lives in Australia. He told me that he has been experienced with the ocean since he was seven years old! He is self taught in diving and can hold his breath for a really long time. He asked me if I had ever gone diving, and I explained how I was afraid to, but it’s something I have always wanted to try.
After giving me some much needed advice – to not let fear get in the way of something that could change my life – I was convinced that this was something I needed to do! After all, it was on my bucket list. Working with Taman Sari Diving & Water-sports and Apollo Watersports & Diving, he was able to get me a spot the very next day to go diving, so it was set.
At 8:30 the next day, we headed off to the office of Taman Sari Diving & Water-sports where they would take the payment, give me the gear / equipment, and explain the diving instructions.
I was greeted with tea which was great for my nerves. I was also told to keep calm and relax multiple times. I felt a lot more at ease with these simple but meaningful gestures.
I learned that the tides determine what time you should be diving. We waited until 10:00 for the timing to be perfect. As we waited, payment was exchanged, I was introduced to my gear, and the underwater hand communication was explained.
Anthony had explained that there are many levels to diving. He is a diving instructor, and we also went along with the diving master, Jacko. (He is the one who took all of these amazing photos!) Jacko guided me through everything very thoroughly. I felt incredibly safe with two people who knew so much.
I ran into a problem before we were going to go – my GoPro Camera did not have a case that was durable enough for the depth that we were going to go. I had no idea about this rule until they brought it to my attention. The pressure of the water would have destroyed my camera. Thankfully, Jacko was able to find me a case to withstand the pressure. I thought that was amazing and I’m truly grateful for that effort he put into solving the problem I didn’t even know I had.
Advice that I would have needed if Jacko hadn’t came to the rescue: (If you’re going diving, make sure to be equipped with an underwater case for your GoPro!)
Once everything was ready and the timing was perfect, we headed out!
